Recommended by my room mate,Foxit– a pdf reader appeared on my desktop.
Though I have heard about Foxit,Foxit did not catch my attention since I do not read and comment on pdf file frequently before.
However,with the work of writing the Thesis of the PRP,I have to read a lot pdf files.I used to read PDF file with the PDF reader 6.0 with a deep impression of the slow start of the application and the lack in comment function in Acrobat Reader.To revise and comment on the PDF files to degrade the difficulty in reading the articles and for the sake of reading easier at the second time,I installed the Acrobat PDF Professional.The application is huge which is almost 300M in all.
I installed an application with the size of 300M to simply achieve the goal of comment on the PDF file.Is that a deal economical?
Now,I have the tool Foxit ,a terrific tool for pdf which is only less than 5M.It is a bargin,:).
What can we learn from this case?
From Foxit:
- There is a gap,there is a demand,there is a market.There is a functional gap between the Acrobat reader and Professional which makes the popularity of Foxit available.
- Get the most important thing done first.Read and comment is the major demand of the user who use pdf files.We can see the 80-20 principle here.
From Acrobat:
- Make a reasonable price and function discrimination.On one hand,Arobat provide the Free edition of Acrobat reader to popularize its PDF document format in competition with other Electronic Book format of other companies such as MS.On the other hand,Acrobat provide the professional edition to earn profit from the product.This is the commonly used mode taken by most software companies as a market strategy.If Acrobat release a version of PDF reader like Foxit,little profit will it earn.
- With Only good and useful technology,company can not make money.Business strategy is similar across different industries.
